Presenting John Julian Alber

Born on April 16, 1996

The same day that his proud father was born in the year of 1952.

John's lovely mother, Maureen McVerry, brought John into the world with less trouble and sweat than she did John's sister Flannery 5 years ago, not to minimize the effort involved in laboring for 13+ hours and pushing for 50 minutes. John breathed his first breath of fresh hospital air at 4:23pm, making his mother very happy and relieved.

John weighed 8 lbs. 4.5 oz. and was 20 inches long. In attendance were Mom and Dad's good friends Bubba Palatas and Leslie Chapman, as well as the talented Doctor Kahlil Tabsch and chief nurse Carla Bailey. After being cleaned out, cleaned up, and toweled down, John aced his Apgar exam, scoring 9's across the board and impressing everyone with his intense dedication to wailing. Following this early but telling test of his future success, John paused to consider all that lay ahead of him.

The monumental event, occuring on a surprisingly drizzly day in sunny Santa Monica, was recorded on videotape and is available for viewing by biology and pre-med students interested in the incredible amount of fluid required to create a human being.

After 9 months of deliberation, Rick and Mo settled on their original desire to honor both of their fathers by naming their son John. The fact that the youngest John also had two uncles and a great-grandparent of the same name helped in their decision. John's middle name, Julian, is the name of the theatre high atop Potrero Hill in San Francisco where his parents first met one another on July 22, 1982. His nickname is Jack or Jackie.

Shortly after the birth, John's lovely big sister Flannery came by to visit and offer words of wisdom to the newest Alber. She alerted him to their father's penchant for orderliness and long stretches in front of machines, and their mother's unfortunate problems with gas.

Aunt Bubba, Nana Alber and Flannery carefully inspected Jackie for the correct number of body parts and his ability to breathe through several layers of material.

As her mother prepares to leave the hospital only 24 hours after delivery, Flannery ensures that she has enough fluids to feed her new brother.

Back at home, Jackie naps while his parents document his amazing resemblance to his older sister and begin purchasing lottery tickets for his college tuition.

Oldest cousin Ryan drops by for a photo op and gives needed pointers on the correct way to wear a cap.

Mom and Dad still smiling after 4 days of intense sleep deprivation. Meanwhile, baby John tries to recover from a Bob Dole stump speech. Thanks for dropping by, y'all.
